Time

With a new year brings new years resolutions.
I'm not the one to make them because I usually can't commit to them for longer than a week.
But today I actually thought of one I won't have trouble keeping and that is to spend more time in devotions.

I know God rewards time I spend with Him so why don't I spend as much time as I need?
I do my "quiet time" for ten minutes and I think "ok. I'm done." I almost feel as though I have something better to do.

I have less than a week until I head back to IWU for the Spring semester and, once again, I'm going to be crazy busy with reading assignments, writing papers, etc. and then I'll have an excuse for not doing them (meaning devotions)

I also know God has heard every excuse:
"I have to write this paper."
"I'm too tired."
"I have to read this chapter."
The list goes on.

If I'm serious about pursuing God's heart, I won't make excuses. My schedule will be centered on God, not vice versa.
I know it will be a struggle.
But I also know God is stronger than struggles.
He revealed to me that the amount of time I put into devotions reflects how strong my faith is.

Happy New Year :-)

Happy 2011!

this is going to be a good year.
I already know it!
My prayer for this year is that I would live by Matthew 6:33: I would seek God first in everything.
Everything else will follow :-)

One of the things I want to do more this year is I want to journal: I want to just write prayers down and reflect on how God has worked and is working now.

The End of the Year

Today is the last day of 2010.

I couldn't be happier.
I'm ready to put this year to rest.

2011 is going to be a good year for spiritual growth.
All the stuff that happened this past year I am no longer bound to. God set me free :-)
He has restored my life.

Isaiah 43:18 states, "Forget the former things, do not dwell on the past."
As it relates to the year, I do not need to dwell on where I've been
The new year symbolizes the beginning of a new journey with God.

That is my prayer: that everyone would remember the new year is the beginning.

Christmas Break is finally here! :-)

I made it through another semester. I survived two of my more difficult classes: Research Methods and Communication Theory.
I enjoy school but I'm glad Christmas break is here.
After a hard semester, I need Christmas break to refocus my life on God and growing in Him.
I know I have made some unhealthy decisions regarding relationships; I know God loves me unconditionally.

I have 3 weeks to just do my devotions hardcore and really seek God out.
I need Him to satisfy me and sometimes I seek it in the wrong places.
So, goodbye for now.
It's time to go journal :-)

It's All About Perspective...

I have had a hard semester.
This semester started out well with Summit and it's focus being revival...
Regardless of how awesome that week was way back in September, I was dwelling on situations that were going on at home.

Sure, I kept myself busy with everything but spiritually I was dying.
I did my devotions once in a while, but it was never enough to sustain me.

To make a long story short, God changed my life and when I view my situations from God's perspective, I won't be such a 'downer' and then bad circumstances won't seem as 'severe.'

I learned that it's all about the perspective I have

Thanksgiving

Well, my semester at IWU is coming to a rapid close. I have less than a month until finals :) Then I'll be home.

Next week is Thanksgiving.

this year is different because things in my family aren't so good. Despite this, I have so much to be thankful for.
*I am thankful that I am able to get an education
*I am thankful for health
* I am thankful that I can wake up every morning
*I an thankful for God's love that won't ever change or fade...

Think about it for a minute.

What do you have to be thankful for this year?

Summit Week

Hello. It's me again. Aren't you excited? I am because I just had an amazing week :-)

This past week at my school, Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU),  we had what's called spiritual emphasis week (otherwise known as Summit).
This event is held twice a year at the beginning of each semester; and each semester is completely different. Honestly, I wasn't that excited about it because I feared Summit would lead me to experience another 'spiritual high.' I'm not against emotional highs but I wanted something more; something that would last beyond a week.

Well, I got what I wanted :-)

This time Summit was focused on being 'ablaze for Christ', revival, and being passionate for God. I've been a part of youth groups in middle school and high school where I was dependent on spiritual highs as a means for deeper growth. Over the years, I have developed a deeper passion for God and it grows stronger each day.

So, in closing, I ask you, what's your passion?
Who are you passionate for? Or about?
